Established in 1876, Kolkata Municipal Corporation is an administrative entity determined by specific territorial limits over which stands a portion of the population. The KMC is primarily concerned with Administration and use of property of the City, Organization of markets eg opening times and closing shop, Management of water and aqueducts, Control of drinking water and bathing water, Sanitation, Collection and disposal of waste, Police mortuary and organization of cemeteries, Hygiene of soil, homes, schools, swimming pools and public toilets, Promote cultural, artistic and sporting, Ensure the right to education canteens, school transportation, education courses for adults, Establish kindergartens and other educational institutions, Organize training courses delegated by the Region and in collaboration with them.

The control strategy is aimed at supporting the activities of strategic planning and political administration of the governing bodies of the institution and to ensure the function of assessing the adequacy of the choices made in the implementation of plans, programs and other tools determination of the political in terms of congruence between the results obtained and the pre-defined objectives.
