Birla Mandir is a Hindu temple at Ballygunge, built by the industrial family of Birla in 1970 and 26 years were needed to complete the structure.
The Laxmi Narayan Temple, popularly known as Birla Mandir, is one of the most important of Kolkata. The temple was built in 1970 and is located in Ashutosh Chowdhury Avenue. Birla Mandir is dedicated to Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity, and her consort Vishnu, the preserver of the Hindu trilogy. The temple was inaugurated by Karan Singh on the condition that it could get people of all caste and religions.
Today, the temple Birla Mandir is one of the main tourist attractions of Kolkata and is particularly busy in the Hindu festivals, the most important of which are the Krishna Janmashtami and Deepawali. The only requirement to enter is not wearing shoes.
