Darjeeling Toy Train


Darjeeling is a popular tourist destination, reachable from Kolkata with a short transfer by plane or a scenic train ride that lasts about twelve hours. The hill station is famous for its black tea and its extraordinary scenic beauty with its charming Victorian style buildings. A romantic journey of 8 hours on what is also known as Toy Train, which will take you from Siliguri, at the foot of the eastern Himalayas, at the station of Darjeeling and has views of the highest peaks of the Himalayas.


Darjeeling is situated at the foot of the Himalayas, to be explored in trains of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, in operation since 1881 and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Although the term toy train may not be apt, because the truth is that the size and speed beats the play toy train covering 88 kilometers from Siliguri to Darjeeling.

It is a UNESCO Heritage, and when you see through the window and the beautiful scenery of the Himalayas watching calm everyday life of the people, all the hustle and bustle of everyday city life dissipates like steam from the locomotive. Toy train, the little narrow-gauge himalayan railroad train, renamed for its toy size.

Built between 1879 and 1881, the toy train, which is a major attraction for tourists visiting the area, along a stretch of around 86 km from Siliguri to Darjeeling and starts at an elevation of 100 meters above sea level reaching over 2200 meters high on his arrival in Darjeeling. Since 1999, the site path of the train has been included in the list of UNESCO world heritage.
