Jagadhatri Puja

Jagadhatri Puja is a major sociocultural event that is more common in Bengal than the other part of India. The word Jagaddhatri literally means, protector of the world. Durga, the feminine aspect is most often depicted as a warrior goddess with 10 arms who rides a tiger or a lion. Her name means invincible.

Bhai Phota

Bhai Phota, is performed by the sister who religiously fasts until she applies a phota or mark on her brother's forehead, offers him sweets and gifts and prays for his long and healthy life. The tilak applied on brother's forehead is made of ghee, sandalwood chandan paste and kaajal. The sisters wish happiness to the brothers by giving them sweets, while brothers promise to protect their sisters.
