Galstaun Mansion or more popularly Queens Mansion, have the distinction of being the largest mansion in Calcutta. Completed in 1923, it has a large frontage and from its roof splendid views of Calcutta and the river beyond can be obtained. The Mansion is a synthesis of Renaissance architecture, Baroque and Rococo within the city walls. The Mansion was built in the place of existing buildings.

Academy of Fine Arts

The Academy of Fine Arts in Cathedral Road was inaugurated in 1933, to develop a modern educational institution of the arts that could satisfy the new requirements of the applied arts. It has a room where they are exposed sketches and paintings of the poet Tagore. It has an auditorium where they are organized plays and ballets. Academy of Fine Arts is a type of institution of higher learning, dedicated to the art visual and applied art. The academies may grant academic degrees for the first level equivalent to graduation and second level equivalent to Masters, while they are being depleted the old order of four-year degrees to the already treated for the purposes of public competitions and teaching.
