International Day of Families


International Day of the Family, founded by the United Nations in 1993. Thanks to the healthy family the state gets stronger and develops and the well being of people grows. At all times the level and character of development of the country has been judged o­n the attitude of the state to family, as well as its stand in a society. This is due to the fact that the happy union of family and the state is a necessary pledge of prosperity and well being of its citizens. Human life commences with family and then its formation as citizen takes place.


On May 15, as every year, we celebrate the International Day of Families, which was proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1994. This day offers, through all kinds of events, the opportunity to promote awareness of the issues and related resources to this issue. The UN considers the family as the fundamental social group and the natural environment for the development and well-being of all its members, especially children.

Among the topics dealt with in several years we remember the solidarity between families, family and economic crisis, marriage crisis and fragility parenting. Ample space was also devoted to the important role that fathers hold within the family, a role that moves between responsibility and daily challenge.

This year marks the twentieth anniversary of this day is dedicated to the family, an important occasion to recognize and reflect on the essential role that the family plays in modern society. The aim is therefore to focus on the role of the family in the development of the human person, finding initiatives and ideas to develop policies and solutions to problems related to the specific theme of the family. 2014 will see as central themes of reconciling work and family life, social integration and intergenerational solidarity, the study of the main strategies to deal with the poverty of the family.

It is celebrated today throughout the world, the International Family Day . Since 1994, proclaimed by the UN International Year of the Family, every 15 May is celebrated as a day dedicated to the fact that the UN considers to be "the fundamental social group and the natural environment for the development and well-being of all its members , in particular children " also reiterating "the right of every child to have a family to protect him, by sending those positive values ​​that will support it for a lifetime" (Preamble to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child , 1989-1990).
